Grass and Portable Sand Sets

Standard, Deluxe, and Power Deluxe:

The J&J Standard, Deluxe, and Power Deluxe sets let you choose a set to match your skill level.  All three sets use 3-piece sturdy 2" diameter steel poles with inner sleeve connector tubes. These poles are so strong that we provide a 5 year warranty regardless of the set. The standards have provision for both men and women regulation net height.

Each set comes with two 5" diameter base plates with internal sleeves. Each base plate has provision for adding a stake for positioning of the base plate. There is no need for ground sleeves or screws, allowing for quick assembly.  Each set uses three adjustable guy ropes per pole standard. They are made of 1/4" diameter 875 lb. tensile rated polypropylene rope for years of trouble free service. A sliding dowel arrangement provides easy assembly and adjustability for optimal net tightness.  Each set comes complete with a regulation boundary line that has pre-measured corner and mid-court loops made of 1/4" diameter yellow polypropylene rope. The line uses an s-hook/loop connection for easy assembly and tear down and stores on a plastic winder.

All 3 sets come with a 25" x 42" heavy black canvas bag with shoulder strap and handle. The bag has room for each set and a ball, plus space to spare. Each set fits easily in any trunk.

Competitive Comparison To The J&J Family

We won't claim to have the lowest cost sets in the low, medium, or high feature markets, but we believe that we provide the best value.

Pole Strength:

There are three important factors to consider when looking at comparative pole strengths; pole material, pole diameter and thickness, and joint integrity.

J&J has chosen a steel pole for its family of sets because on average, steel is 65% stronger than aluminum. We will be the first to admit that we are usually the heaviest set in each respective market (Standard- 37 lb, Deluxe- 38 lb, Power Deluxe- 42 lb). If weight is your primary concern, you won't be happy with a J&J set.

Pole diameter and thickness are critical in providing pole rigidity for better play out of the net. The larger the diameter and the thicker the tubing wall, the more resistance the pole standard has to bending and shock loading. With the 2" diameter by 18 gauge wall tubing, J&J provides a larger diameter and thicker wall compared to almost every competitor. Surprisingly, our 2" diameter steel pole has more rigidity than a competitive 2.5" diameter aluminum pole.

J&J has shied away from using telescoping tubing for its pole standards. Every joint of a telescoping standard provides a source for pole deflection and bending. In addition, sand or other particles can become wedged between the telescoping sections, making setup more difficult and eventually scratching the surface of the standards. J&J instead relies on an integrated tube through tube sleeve. Two of the three pole sections use a 1.9" diameter thick wall sleeve crimped at the end of the 2" diameter pole. The sleeve joint is actually stronger in bending resistance than the parent pole material. The sleeves provide a quick and tight assembly of the pole standard, providing one continuous rigid pole standard.

J&J Products uses a 5" diameter base plate with welded insertion tube into the bottom pole standard. The base plate provides provision for adding a stake to hold the base plate in place, although in most cases the guy ropes provide enough downward force on the plate that it will not move anyway. The base plate can be left inserted in the lower pole for a quicker future assembly. Some competitive sets use a screw in spring arrangement that requires more time to assemble and only covers up other deficiencies with their set.

Guy Ropes

J&J Products uses three guy ropes per pole for each of its sets to minimize stake pull-out force, which directly translates to maximize net cable tension. Each guy rope has ample length to position the stake far away from net play and provides good vector force to the top of the pole. Each guy rope has a 4" sliding dowel for quick tensioning during assembly and to provide flexibility to work around external court interferences. The guy ropes are made of ¼" diameter water and sun resistant polypropylene with a tensile strength of 875 lb each. Some competitive sets may only use two guy ropes per pole or do not provide guy rope tension adjustability. One competitor relies on driven in ground sleeves and uses no guy ropes. Despite what they say, a ground sleeve cannot keep a net cable tight that is 8' above it.

Guy Line Stakes

Retaining force of a stake is based on three main factors; stake diameter, stake length, and stake bending strength. The bigger the diameter, the harder it is for a stake to pull through the anchoring soil. Similarly, the longer the stake, the more surface contact the stake has for more resistance to pull out. And finally, no matter how well a stake is anchored, it must have the strength to resist bending from the guy rope tension.

J&J Products uses a 3/8" diameter by 12" long high tensile strength nail stake for anchoring the guy ropes on all three sets. The stake is actually an industrial strength nail with a washer welded under the head for easier guy rope adjustment and retention protection. The head is painted red for easy locating during disassembly. Compare competitive sets and you will find they are either using smaller diameter, shorter, or lower tensile strength stakes.

Customer Service

If we haven't provided the information to help you make an informed decision, don't hesitate to contact our knowledgeable sales people. We have assisted countless customers on how to best use our sets for recreation, rental, commercial, or tournament use. We also understand that sometimes a volleyball set is an instinct buy for an upcoming party, employee gathering, or other quickly planned event. In most cases, J&J can offer next day UPS shipping. Even special orders can usually be accommodated within a week.

Warranty

Compare our 5 year unconditional pole warranty to competitors' 1 year, 2 year, or 5 year conditional warranties. We have superior pole strength and we are willing to back it up with a superior warranty.

We back up the remaining parts of the sets (excluding the net) for a period of 2 years. Again compare this to our competitors. Our nets will be replaced immediately if found defective upon receipt.

From customer feedback from our sets, most customers can judge the reliability of a set after the first use. That's why we offer a 30 day like it or return it policy on our sets. If you have any reluctance about the quality and value of our sets, return it. Customers have told us that credibility is so important in making a purchasing decision. We hope that our warranty, return policy, and features can establish a sense of credibility with you.
